Call for Abstracts for the 2009 Symposium on Experiential Education Research
(SEER)
At the 37th Annual AEE Conference in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
October 29 November 1, 2009
Abstracts describing new empirical and conceptual research in the field of
Experiential Education are now being solicited for the 9th Annual Symposium
for Experiential Education Research (SEER). The Symposium is a component of
the AEE conference and features formal, peer-reviewed presentations,
followed by questions and comments from the audience as well as a discussant
for each themed session. Four 90-minute blocks of time will be allocated at
the AEE conference for the Symposium, with speakers being allotted 15
minutes for presentation and five minutes for question-and-answer. All
submitted abstracts will be blind reviewed and ranked according to the
following criteria: (a) applicability to the experiential education field;
(b) importance of the research topic; (c) methodological appropriateness and
quality; (d) strength of connections between analysis and conclusions.
This year, we will again be grouping sessions according to themes that
emerge from the highest ranking papers. This encourages greater
participation by other AEE attendees and affords more focused discussion in
each session.
CONDITIONS FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
1) Completed studies or scholarly discussions are suitable for
submission. Abstracts of works in progress may also be submitted provided
that a full report can be given at the time of the symposium.
2) Only studies or papers that have not been previously published or
presented at another professional conference may be submitted. Papers that
address the same question, use the same analysis, or develop the same
logical argument as previous publications or presentations are not eligible.
3) Abstracts undergo blind peer review, but Symposium co-chairs make final
decisions about acceptance. Papers may be rejected due to time and space
limitations, ineffective development within the 2-page abstract, violation
of conditions 2 or 3 (above), weaknesses in the study itself, or failure to
follow submission guidelines (below).
4) Authors whose abstracts are accepted are expected to deliver their
presentations as assigned during the Symposium. Please do not submit an
abstract unless you are committed to attending the Symposium. Presenters are
expected to register for the AEE conference.
5. The deadline for submission is March 27, 2009. Please include
current contact information (see item 7 below). Authors will receive
notification, via e-mail, of the status of their submission by May 29, 2009.
Presenters will be asked to provide an abstract by August 28th, 2009 for
inclusion in the conference Book of Abstracts. Presenters will also have the
opportunity to have their abstracts published in the Journal of Experiential
Education.
The submission deadline is March 27, 2009. Submit an electronic copy of your
abstract to:

Abstract Preparation Details
1. Abstracts must be limited to two pages maximum, using 12-point font and

exceed two pages. Files should be in MS Word.
2. Abstracts need a title that reflects the general nature of the

3. Use appropriate subheadings. Abstracts reporting empirical studies
should contain subheadings identifying an introduction, methods, results,
and discussion. Abstracts reporting conceptual and theoretical discussions
should also have appropriately descriptive subheadings.
4. Remove author identification in properties (In Word, go to File, then
properties, summary and remove author name). Tracking changes should not be
readable.
5. Reference List: A list of references, not exceeding one-page, may be
included on a third page following the abstract in the same font and margin
format as specified above. References should be formatted according to
Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition).

further consideration.

separate file:
