INRIA Grenoble organizes, in cooperation with Eurosys, the second
winter school on Hot Topics in Distributed Computing. This winter
school will take place in La Plagne, a French ski resort, from March
15th to March 20th 2009.
The winter school will give the opportunity to researchers and PhD
students to learn about and discuss emerging topics in distributed
computing, from both a theoretical and a practical perspective.

Program:
- Seth Gilbert (EPFL): The nine circles of torment: algorithms for
robust wireless networks
- Andrew Gordon (Microsoft Research, Cambridge): Principles and
applications of refinement types: the next big idea in languages for
distributed computing
- Steve Hand (University of Cambridge): Distributed storage systems
- Tim Harris (Microsoft Research, Cambridge): Language constructs for
transactional memory
- Robbert Van Renesse (Cornell University): Agreement without tears:
how to achieve consensus in the face of failures
- Rodrigo Rodrigues (MPI SWS): From outvoting to detecting non-crash
faults in distributed systems
- Peter Triantafillou (University of Patras): Citius, Altius, Fortius

The school will dedicate several time slots for presentations made by
PhD students. Interested students should submit a 1-page abstract
motivating the main research challenge they are addressing and stating
the approach being taken. A selection of proposals will be chosen for
