Dear Sarah,
The Horniman Museum's Study Collection Centre (SCC), is our storage
facility.
The store is not open for general visitation in the sense of an open
store which I think you mean.
However access to the collections is via contact with (and approval of)
the relevant curatorial staff of each collection and visitors are
supervised when on site. Other visitors would include students or
others interested in the mechanics of museum storage and are arranged
via Collections Management.
We are currently undertaking a number of improvements to assist access
to and inside the building but are not anticipating that these will
enable us to change into an open store facility (as I understand the
term) at this present time.
Please let me know if you need any more information and advise if you
would be categorising us as open and intend to publicise us as such on a
website.
Yours sincerely,
Adrian Holloway

Subject: Open/visitable stores
Dear All,
I am a MA Museum Studies student at UCL and am currently undertaking
preliminary research for my dissertation into open/visitable stores. I
am
attempting to create a list of all open stores in London and the
surrounding
areas. Would anyone have any information about the whereabouts of such
stores? I would be very grateful!
Many thanks,
Sarah Fairhurst
