A postdoctoral position is available in the chemical dynamics group at the
University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Alternatively, an exceptionally talented
undergraduate applicant may be considered for a PhD program.
The research project involves theoretical investigation of chemical
processes which are ultimately important for the understanding of star and
galaxy formation. Particular focus will lie on molecule formation by
radiative association, which is important in dust-poor regions of space.
Molecules of interest are, for example, CN, CH_2, and OCS.
We seek an individual with a PhD in theoretical physics or theoretical
chemistry and with an interest in implementing the tools of quantum
mechanics on computers to simulate processes in gas phase chemical dynamics.
Ideally the applicant has experience of quantum dynamics and/or electronic
structure calculations as well as programming.
The position is funded by the European effort ASTRONET and the Gothenburg
group is a part of the collaboration CATS (Coherent set of Astrophysical
Tools for Spectroscopy) which includes 18 chemists, astronomers, and
physicists from Sweden, Germany, and France.
The postdoc position is initially for one year but may be extended to three
years upon mutual agreement. The salary will be competitive.
Interested candidates are invited to send their application including a CV,
list of publications, a statement of qualifications relevant for the
position, and names and contact information of three references by email to:
