Dear Administrator

I'm getting these Digests but there is a lot of gobbledegook - see below.

Any chance I can just get a summary without trawling through it all. You have my permission to change the settings.

Thanks
Ali

Many thanks to Suman, Dale and all those who have contacted me
privately.=20
The contacts and suggestions I have received are excellent and we will
be getting in touch with all of them shortly.

Dear Amjad

=20

Myself and some mental health colleagues in Glasgow (through the
International Initiative for MH Leadership) have established links with
CAMH in Toronto through 2 excellent mental health people:

=20

Kwasi Kafele (Director of Diversity at CAMH) [log in to unmask]

And Sophia Bishop [log in to unmask]

=20

Both Kwasi and Sophia were over in Scotland last October.

=20

I would also echo Suman's excellent recommendation for the Across
Boundaries project having visited it briefly in 2007.

=20

Best wishes, Dale

Dear Amjad,

=20

You may know that Kwame McKenzie (who was at Royal Free / UCL) moved to
Toronto a few months ago and I believe active in promoting Diversity. He
is at CAMH (Centre for Addiction & Mental Health):
[log in to unmask]

=20

A thriving NGO addressing MH for 'Ethnoracial Communities' (their term
for BME) is Across Boundaries www.acrossboundaries.ca
<http://www.acrossboundaries.ca/> > and the person to contact is Aseefa
Sarang ([log in to unmask]) or Martha Acampo who founded the
organization over ten years ago and is now p-time training officer
([log in to unmask]).=20

=20

Hong Fook is a MH centre for Chinese people and someone involved in that
is (Dr) Ted Lo also at CAMH [log in to unmask]

=20

I am sure these people could tell you about initiatives in primary
health care too and tell you whom to contact in the health department.
Across Boundaries especially does excellent work and is in touch with
other initiatives in Toronto. I did an article in Openmind about it way
back in 2002 (not a very good scanned copy I'm afraid) - above.=20

=20

As part of its participation in The Health Foundation Leadership for
Change (BME) programme, the Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster BME Health
Forum is organising an educational visit to Toronto, Canada to explore
and learn from their approaches to tackling race equality in health and
social care.

The objectives of this visit are:=20

1. To learn about alternative approaches to delivering healthcare to a
diverse population.=20
2. To explore how we could learn from the way primary care services are
delivered in Toronto. Relevant areas of investigation would be:

a) National policy and legislation=20
b) Local health structures and governance=20
c) Diversity of the BME sector=20
3. Levels and nature of community engagement=20

We are therefore looking to establish links with groups, organisations
and individuals who we can meet and visit while in Toronto. Is anyone on
this list based in Toronto and willing to help? Does anyone have any
suggestions about groups and/or individuals that we can contact?

Suggestions and recommendations are welcome. The visit will take place
at the end of May. For information about the Forum, please visit=20
