From Dr. Steve Ashby:
Dear all,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Finds Research Group AD 700-1700. The
group provides a forum for people interested in researching artefacts of the
Anglo-Saxon, Viking, medieval and post-medieval periods.
The main activities of FRG include themed Day conferences held twice a year
and the production of information sheets on different types of objects
(Datasheets). The groups' primary purpose is to provide a means by which
specialists, finds workers, museum professionals and other interested
persons can communicate and discuss topics relevant to the subject of finds
identification and interpretation.
The group produces a series of Datasheets, and I am writing to you now to
invite contributions for future editions. An essential characteristic of
this series is its informality; Datasheets aim to communicate the results of
ongoing work so that this information, and new ideas can be circulated
quickly. The result is that the author usually receives useful feedback
from the membership. We therefore welcome Datasheets on work in progress,
whether from postgraduate students or any other person researching a topic
within this broad area of interest. Past examples have included typologies,
experimental work, identifications of new, or poorly understood categories
of material culture etc.
All datasheets are internally reviewed, and though they represent an
expedient way to publish works-in-progress, they are well respected. All
back issues are now available in book form, such has been the demand for
them.
Our deadlines for publication in each issue are late May and early November,
but we are happy to accept submissions all year round. Please do feel free
to contact me in the first instance, to informally discuss contributions. I
look forward to hearing from you.
Please see http://www.frg700-1700.org.uk/sheet.html for a list of previous
datasheets, and a sample.
Sincerely
Steve Ashby
