*Mlitt/Diploma in Media and Culture*

The Mlitt/Diploma in Media and Culture is for people who want to better
understand the twenty-first century media environment. The contemporary
media are being shaped by emerging transformations and by contested
continuities. Established media industries struggle to deal with the shock
of the new < a proliferation of competing platforms, a reconfiguration of
audiences, and a digital context in which media products can be shared,
copied and remixed by millions. At the same time, assumptions and precedents
from the twentieth century persist in the shaping of policy and regulation,
in debates about censorship and subsidy, in struggles over intellectual
property, copyright and access.

The MLitt in Media and Culture will benefit those seeking a competitive edge
in a careers market that values high-level skills in communication, research
and critical thinking. It will also provide an excellent preparation for
those wishing to continue their research at PhD level.

*MSc/Diploma in Financial Journalism*

Recent financial and banking crises such as the Credit Crunch, the corporate
scandals of Enron and WorldCom in the US, and the nationalisation of
Northern Rock in the UK have raised awareness of the need to have
journalists who can cover and analyse financial news in a critical, ethical
and comprehensive manner. Financial journalism has become one of the most
exciting and important areas in the media and one of the fastest growing
fields in terms of employability. Large news networks and news agencies such
as Thompson/Reuters, Bloomberg and AP/Dow Jones are now expanding into
audiences eager to read and know more about finance. Magazines, broadcast
media, online services and press and PR departments of financial
institutions and companies are also requiring journalists who can deal with
the complexities of covering financial issues.

The MSc/Diploma in Financial Journalism addresses this growing need, while
providing the basis for journalists who are also capable of gathering and
disseminating financial news in a responsible and ethical manner. It is
designed for those who want to work in the field of financial journalism as
journalists or press officers.
