I wholeheartedly agree with you. The problem is I come from the generation that was not
taught grammar, or rather very little and I am dyslexic which makes the whole situation
ridiculous and I am always relying on my wifelett to proof read. More seriously however,
using the correct punctuation aids understanding and interpretation, especially important in
my own discipline, which is law. There seems to be a insidious movement within city
councils to drop the possessive apostrophe (see “The Times” at
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article5614962.ece Such a practice is a great
shame for historical reasons and I doubt the motives for doing it.
