One of the reasons that might sway you to attend a conference though
(especially if it is your own money being spent) is if the location is
interesting and there are plenty of social outlets. So a city is always
worth visiting, because it has other things to do. At Hatfield I felt like
a prisoner on a soulless campus, with the prison effect exacerbated by the
awful accommodation that felt like cells.
Fair play to the organisers for trying to make the organised social events
interesting, but the location is in soulless suburbia. Easy commute from
London though, which is probably the point.
