Dear list linkers,
Please let me know if you would like to be included in the contributors to what follows:
The British Association for the Advancement of Science is organising its festival at the University of Surrey in September, and I'm planning a gig along the lines of the Creating Sparks contribution of 2000....
The Festival of Place
There is a festival of Palladio at the Royal Academy. Where can I visit Palladio influenced buildings for the price of a bus ticket rather than a flight to Venice?
The snow has melted, where can I see snowdrops for the price of a bus ticket?
The winter isn't over, where is a good walk, healthy, short, before dark, for the price of a bus ticket?
Between Winchester and Canterbury, where can we find Anglo-Saxon settlements and what do we know about how they were founded? Oh, and how can we get to see them for the price of a bus ticket? If they are worth getting to see.
If the car is left at home, one day, a week, and walking in winter is proven a pleasure, the peak all problem is reduced?
This is to introduce the Festival of Place. Now it is February, and these are the questions of February. In September, the questions will be difference but the matters of place will be the same.
The British Academy for the Advancement of Science is organising its annual festival in Surrey, at the University, in Guildford and we are collaborating in organising a Festival of Place. You can see it already, University, Surrey, Guildford.
This year the BAAS Festival will pay much attention to Darwin, and the evolution of species. We want to spent time working on the evolution of place. It clearly doesn't follow the same rules.
We are asking you to join us as Founder Collaborators.
We want to celebrate place with exhibitions, but we want also to organise an event, In Search of Space where we look at the naming of places, using the advanced technology made available by the Internet, to improve on the search button which is all the help you get at the moment.
That might form a basis for theory?
Founder Collaborators will organise what ever events they wish and we will publicise these, making the local, global. Founder Collaborators will be able to participate in the Festival Event, demonstrating their particularly valued contribution and making its presence felt. Out of the event will come a framework of participation for building a new generation information management and knowledge sharing tool, In Search of Space, A Festival of Place.
Founder collaborations will be £100, payable to.. which will have your logo and statement of policy or position placed on the Festival promotion material. It will give you entitlement of participation in the development of the Framework.
You will also be sent access to a slightly humourous set of answers to the initial questions.
We are the National Forum for Information Planning, the Information for Development Forum, Information Management and Knowledge Sharing, Future Transport, Green and Smart, the landscape gallery, Antequeerians, the initial founding collaborators.
