The Environmental Assessment Unit exists to provide expertise in the
application of environmental data analysis, modelling, GIS and statistical
techniques. The team within the unit provide expertise in one or more of these
areas and work collaboratively to provide an overall service to the organisation
using a range of specialised software packages and bespoke applications to
meet business needs.
Specifically you will support the unit manager and other team members in
developing and providing an overall data processing, analysis and information
delivery system for the unit. Your primary area of expertise will be the
handling, manipulation and processing of environmental data and you will act
as a key contact for internal systems and software queries.
SEPA uses ORACLE databases, ESRI GIS software and SPlus for significant
areas of its data handling and processing. Increasingly web based delivery of
software solutions and reporting is desirable. Experience in the use and
application of appropriate software, in particular SPlus, is desirable. SEPA aims
to make more of its environmental data available electronically to both internal
and external audiences and this post will play a key role in developing
processes and procedures to enable this. Key skills required will be familiarity
and use of a range of software packages and programming languages.
Experience with ORACLE databases is desirable and demonstration of an
aptitude to develop a high level of skill in the use and application of SPlus
software will be essential.
