Dear Steve (Dear Colleagues)
Thanks for your recent note and helpful comments about RAE feedback at the Belfast CUTG in the light of the envisaged changes in assessment format and methodology.
Since the draft agenda was first put together, more details of how HEFCE intends to consult on the new Research Excellence Framework (REF) have come into the public domain, allowing us to reflect on those during the meeting.
As far as German is concerned, Pól Ó Dochartaigh, CUTG Vice-President, has now been officially appointed to the "REF Expert Advisory Group" and been tasked with consulting with the German subject community. Given the relatively short timescale envisaged by HEFCE (the Group will meet just three times and conclude its work in June), the Committee feels that greater emphasis should be given to this matter in Belfast. That said, Pól and myself, as members of the RAE 2008 sub-panel for German, will obviously be able to take questions which colleagues might still have, without wanting to cover the same ground as our panel's "subject overview report". The draft agenda will be revised accordingly.
[If any members of the List have still to see this report it can be downloaded from: http://www.rae.ac.uk/pubs/2009/ov/
Scroll down to 'Panel M' and click the link. NB: The German report follows that of Main Panel M and is to be read in conjunction with it.]
Looking forward to seeing you in Belfast.
Best wishes,
Frank

dear all,
there doesn't appear to be a feedback session on the rae on the
programme - in previous post-rae cutg meetings, there has been such a
session with members of the rae panel, and given the differences in
assessment format and methodology this time round, it seems to me that
such a session is rather important,
regards to one and all, steve g.
