Dear All:
I am a PhD candidate of geotechnical engineering at the University of
Tehran. I really motivate to research about the influence of soil
anisotropy on bearing capacity of footing on sand. As you know, in the
classical bearing capacity theory, the equations have not been affected by
any parameters of soil anisotropy; however, in a series of laboratory
model test, the researchers have observed that the vertical bearing
capacity of strip footing on dense sand tends to decrease when the
inclination of the bedding plane is increased.
I want to take the effect of strength anisotropy of sand into bearing
capacity equations by the changing of friction angle of sand which
determines the bearing capacity factors.
In your idea, is it possible to establish a relation between strength
anisotropy and friction angle of sand? And which one of these research
methods is more suitable for this purpose; element test, physical modeling
or numerical modeling?
I really appreciate if you send me your idea about the other correlations
between the soil anisotropy and the bearing capacity of footing?
Kind regards,
Mehdi Ashtiani
