Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a geotechnical engineering PhD student. I want to get your opinions
about a problem that I want to solve it. I know that dry cohesiveless
soil have a settlement during earthquake which called “densification”
in contrast to liquefaction in saturated soils. Tokimatsu & Seed(1984)
presented a method for calculation this settlements in fine cohesiveless
soils such as sandy or gravely soils. But for large particle diameters
such as rock-fills, rubble mounds and breakwaters, I could not find a
suitable method for calculation the densification settlement.
I want to work on this phenomenon in my thesis but I think related
methods maybe exists. So I really need your help to get information about
existing methods or your opinion for choosing it as a thesis subject.
What is your selection as a research tool? Numerical method is better or
experimental methods?
Thanks for your kind assistance,
Regards,
