dear all,
I use a power wheelchair to move around, precisely because my illness affects bith my legs and my arms, and therefore I am not strong enough to wheel me around without a power chair. Consequently, I am also not able to transfer from my chair to the car seat. However, I do have a driving license. When I got it as a matter of fact, my illness, a degenerative one, was not as bad as it is today and I could easily transfer chair-car and back (even if already at the time I needed assistance to put my chair, folded, in the back of the car).
Anyway, today I am desperately looking for a car which I could drive staying in my wheelchair.
Apparently, there is no car which is precisely built for needs such as mine: inner height of about 1,50 metres- visibility in the front etc...
in short, I would have to buy a normal car (actually, a huge van) and then spend about 30,000 euros only to make it "ok" for my needs. and still it wouldn't be good enough, because the maximum height that can be reached is of about 1,30. and with a power chair this is not enough.
in short, I have no possibilities of gaining my independence.
does anyone know where I could find some information on cars adapted for wheelchair drivers? maybe some interesting sites? maybe in the US there are already cars especially meant and produced for disabled people?
it's a shame that no car company, to my knowledge, thinks about us.
thanks for your attention
best,
maddalena botta
