Subject: CfP: ESA 2009: Public Sociology in a Civil Environment in Russia
[With genuine apologies for cross-posting]
Dear colleagues,
I am writing on behalf of Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova (Professor of Sociology,
Higher School of Economics, Moscow), who is seeking paper proposals for a
thematic conference section entitled 'Public Sociology in a Civil
Environment in Russia' at the European Sociological Association Conference
in Lisbon this September. She is eager for non-Russian sociologists to
discuss their work in this section both to encourage a dialogue with the
Russian scholars in attendance and to increase the visibility and quality of
the panel. The theme of the section is sufficiently broad to encompass most
work on Russia and, perhaps unusually for Russian academics, qualitative and
empirical work is strongly encouraged.
It is hoped that the session will be an excellent place to meet fellow
researchers from the country and beyond.
Applications from doctoral students will be warmly welcomed and benefit from
kind feedback and possible publication.
I understand that many of you may be planning to present in a different
research stream at the ESA. If this is the case, we would be grateful if
you would consider submitting a second application to this research section
(the ESA allows a maximum of two papers per participant). Please see below
for a short CfP and links to the conference website. The deadline for
proposals is 26th February 2009.
I do hope that I will have the pleasure of seeing you in Portugal! Please
direct any enquires to Elena at [log in to unmask] in English or
Russian.
With best wishes,
Michael Rasell
