I am just back from a brief research trip to Washington and New York
archives. What does it tell us about racism in the UK that Cliff and John
Siblon have had to write letters of complaint re the omission of colonial
troops from WWI? (At least these got published!) And what does that indicate
about how WWI might be taught in schools? Every time I think we have taken a
step forward the next day something crops up which makes me feel we've been
shoved back two steps!
Should we hold a conference on colonial contributions (and not just in terms
of man/womanpower) to Britain's wars? Didn't Britain first try to conquer
Afghanistan more than a century ago with Indian troops?
