Dear All,
We have recently set up a project here at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and
Celtic Studies in Aberystwyth to look at the cultural impact of the French
Revolution (1789) and subsequent events on Wales. One aspect of this will be
a study of Welsh-language broadside ballads dealing with events such as the
executions of Louis & Marie-Antoinette, the wars with France (including the
1797 botched French invasion of Fishguard on the Welsh coast), and the rise
of Napoleon.
We would be very pleased to hear from you if you know of relevant songs
(oral or printed) in your language area, and if you can point us towards any
useful studies on the subject.
Many thanks!
