Dear All
Last Friday I asked for some advice re companies to work with on a
digitisation project. I received lots of answers, so thank you all very
much! Below is a summary of the replies:
Several people recommended contacting heds at the University of
Hertfordshire. www.heds-digital.com (Ian Brearey got name checked)
Within the sector http://www.ulcc.ac.uk/digital-preservation.html and
London Metropolitan Archives [log in to unmask] were
mentioned. Chris Owens at TNA has also been cited as very helpful with
advice.
http://www.discs-uk.info (choose 'Supplier Directory') There is a
Directory of roughly 400 suppliers of Digital services
(including various different forms of Digitisation), You can use this
info to identify companies who have either received specific training in
digitising cultural material, or who have worked with archives in the
past.
Specific companies, with various levels of recommendations (some used
regularly, some at the bidding stage):
www.Ikon.co.uk
CitiLaw
http://www.bookscanbureau.co.uk/
http://www.townswebarchiving.com/
http://www.capita-ds.co.uk/scanning-and-data-capture/ Capita Total
Document Solutions
MicroFormat based in Rochester (contact Andrew Gilliard).
http://www.document-options.co.uk/ (contact Steve Entecot)
Backstage Library Works (Utah)
Max Communications (contact is David Cordery)
Again, many thanks!
Teresa
