Webster University Geneva, its Student Organizing Committee, and the
International Relations Department are proud to inform you about our
latest event, the 14th International Humanitarian Conference, entitled
The Psychological Impact of Humanitarian Crises on Humanitarian
Actors, on Refugees and Other Victims.
During this two-day event taking place on February 26-27 2009 at the
International Conference Center (CICG), key speakers from the UNHCR,
the ICRC, international NGOs, universities and other international
organizations will hold discussions on the challenge of the
psychological and mental health issues of the victims, the stress and
trauma affecting humanitarian workers during or after their engagement
in the field.
These problems have become more evident as a result of the widespread
violence in internal conflicts and by the practice of targeting
civilian populations and humanitarian workers. Thus, the Conference
will revolve around three major themes:
1. The foundations, ethics and practice of "humanitarian psychology"
2. The psychological vulnerability of individuals and communities at
risk
3. "Helping the helpers" - psychological care for humanitarian workers
