They should, at the very least, unsubscribe every address for which they
did not receive an explicit subsription request. As a matter of
principle, why should people have to go to the effort of unsubscribing
from a list they didn't subscribe to in the first place? I would expect
that JISC or its representatives bring pressure to bear to ensure this is
done. If it doesn't happen, then they won't have learnt anything.
If they refuse to do so, I will treat them in the way I treat all domains
and systems that subscribe people to lists without confirmatation.
The number of happy people is of absolutely no relevance to this
discussion.
