The British Museum is working together with the Marsh Trust to launch an
exciting new awards scheme for museum volunteers. The 'Marsh Volunteers for
Museum Learning Award' is open to all individuals or groups of people who
worked on a voluntary basis in direct contact with the public in an accredited
museum or gallery. The award is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the work
and achievements of the volunteers who work so hard for us and our visitors.
There will be 12 regional winners (9 English regions and Wales, Scotland and
Northern Ireland), who will each receive a £250 prize and from those will be
chosen an overall winner, who will receive an additional £1,000. Prizes will be
awarded at The British Museum in May 2009.
We would be extremely grateful if you could let your own volunteers know
about the Marsh Award and also spread the word to other museums in your
networks. The closing date is 16th March 2009. This is the inaugural year of
the award and we are keen to gauge the level of interest from across the
English regions, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The application form and more information about the award is available on the
British Museum website at
