FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS - An invitation to contribute to a special edition of
the Journal of Maps
MAPPING THE IMPACTS OF TRANSPORT
The Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds, would like to invite
contributions to a special edition of the Journal of Maps devoted to transport
research, planning and management. The broad theme is mapping the impacts
of transport. The aims are to investigate:
• how mapping is used in transport;
• how transport outputs can be mapped;
• use of maps in formulating transport policy; or
• how maps can be used to disseminate transport policy decisions.
The Journal of Maps (http://www.journalofmaps.com/) is an open-access
electronic journal that aims to provide a forum for researchers to publish maps
and spatial diagrams. It provides a unique outlet for graphical material that
may otherwise be expensive or difficult to publish in a conventional paper-
based journal.
SUBMISSION
All papers are expected to consist of a map or series of maps accompanied by
fairly brief explanatory text. Papers should be bespoke and the mapping of
reasonable quality. All papers in this special edition will be peer reviewed. To
submit a paper, authors should do the following:
1. Submit a short draft (500 word limit) outlining the key themes and
scope of the paper, where possible including example mapping, by 30th
January 2009.
2. Submit a completed paper (2500 word limit) by 30th April 2009.
3. The special edition will be published in November 2009.
Reviewers are happy to discuss ideas for papers and their suitability with
potential contributors prior to the short draft submission stage. Please email
Helen Muir ([log in to unmask]) in the first instance.
Short drafts should also be emailed directly to Helen Muir. All final paper
submissions should be made via the Journal of Maps website where further
guidance on all aspects of submission can be found. The Journal is managed
as a charitable learned society and it charges a nominal submission fee to
cover administrative costs. Funding may be available to help research
students with limited resources. All papers will be peer reviewed and
publication cannot be guaranteed.
