One of the advantages of the SPM framework and NIfTI data format is
that you do not need to bother too much about image orientation, voxel
sizes etc. When you import DICOM data from your scanner using SPMs own
routines, SPM will try its best to extract this information from the
DICOM headers. If you use MRIcro to import the data, some information
may get lost. MRIcron is a newer version of this program that can deal
with NIfTI data.
