The School of Applied Social Sciences at Durham University invites applications for a range of studentships and bursaries for PhD study starting in October 2009. Fully funded Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) studentships are available for Sociology (including Criminology and Sociology of Sport) and Social Work (including Community and Youth Work) and are open to UK and EU students. We also invite applications for fully funded Durham Doctoral Fellowships (open to students from UK and overseas), Overseas Research Students Awards (overseas fees only) and Bursaries in Community and Youth Work and Social Work. CLOSING DATE: 3.00 GMT on Monday 16th February, 2009.
I would particularly like to draw your attention to the bursary in Community and Youth Work.
A bursary of £1,000 is available for part-time or full-time study for a PhD in fields related to community and youth work and social work. We are particularly interested in encouraging practitioners employed in community and youth work, social work and related fields to study on a part-time basis (5-6 years) for a PhD. The topic can be in any area of relevance in fields of community, youth or social work. We especially welcome applications from people interested in studying the policy-practice interface, professional values and ethics, the implications of integrated children's and young people's services, faith-based community and youth work, community development, community care and mental health.
Full details can be found on the website http://www.dur.ac.uk/sass/studentships/
There is currently a lively group of postgraduate researchers in the community and youth work field from different parts of England who meet regularly for seminars, working on topics ranging from youth work in the world of children's services through faith-based community and youth work to regeneration and community development.
Any queries relating to community and youth work, please contact Sarah Banks.
