ESRC PHD STUDENTSHIPS IN SOCIAL POLICY AND SOCIAL WORK
The School for Policy Studies at the University of Bristol invites
applications from suitably qualified candidates for up to 4 ESRC Quota
award PhD studentships (either 1+3 or +3) in Social Policy or Social Work
to cover maintenance and fees for full-time or part-time study.
The strength of research at the School for Policy Studies has recently been
confirmed following the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Taking
account of both the quality and quantity of research activity, the School
is placed fourth out of 66 UK institutions in the fields of Social Policy
and Social Work. Excellent results in the 2008 RAE build upon success in
the 2001 RAE in which the School achieved the top 5* for Social Work and a
5 in Social Policy - a combination unmatched by any other institution.

All candidates must fulfil relevant ESRC eligibility criteria and
applicants for +3 awards must have completed recognised ESRC research
training. If awarded on a 1+3 basis, award holders may enrol on the
School's MSc Programme in Policy Research or Social Work Research as
appropriate. All studentships will commence in October 2009.
