The UK Hydrographic Office is the organisation behind the highly
successful and trusted Admiralty brand, providing comprehensive
world coverage of navigational charts, digital products and
services to the mariner and international shipping.
Analysing astronomical data and producing almanacs, other printed
materials and web sites; your insight will be valued across the
nautical world. By checking data quality, you will develop an
in-depth understanding of timescales, reference frames, phenomena
and refraction. Translating theoretic concepts into practical
applications and algorithms, takes a special kind of talent. So,
you must have the logic to understand the maths and astronomy,
together with the writing skills essential to communicating and
applying your findings. You must also have the programming skills
vital to maintaining and enhancing the bespoke software you will
use to create almanacs.
This is a Ministry of Defence non-reserved post and is therefore
open to UK, British Commonwealth and European Economic Area
nationals. Candidates should normally have been resident in the UK
for at least the last five years.
