My introduction to the Concierto was via Davis, at someone's apt en El
Bronx durante nosotros were completamente boracho after I'd been to the
opera downtown to see my first performance of Verdi's *Otello*. Some
evenings are more memorable than others, and that was an all-time
winner. Miles brought us around rather quickly. Since that evening in
1963, I have gone through the original vinyl, one CD that managed to get
cat-damaged (the cat tasted marvelous), and now a third. It still
sounds wonderful. Of course, I went from there into what the "real one"
is supposed to sound like a la Julian Bream, the Romeros, John Williams,
and it's just a glorious piece of music. But everyone allegedly
remembers their first time, and yes, I remember Miles.
