Hi Donna,
We simply send out a letter asking them to attend for pre employment
screening or if changing to new EPP post we ask them to attend for
immunisation update. In addition we do not pass them fit for EPP work until
we have done everything and had the results back.
I am not surprised people are complaining about letters through the post
asking for attendance re HIV or Hep C testing as there are a lot of
implications from that. People are quick to judge and condemn - what might
partners think!!!
We then go into detail at time of attendance and all our staff sign consent
forms specific to the blood tests they are undergoing - they can never say
they didn't know.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Clive

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Exposure Prone Letters
Hi,
Was just wondering if anyone could share their thoughts or letters with
me?
We recently had an issue/complaint regarding the letters we send out
requesting applicants to attend for blood testing in relation to
exposure prone procedures.
When an individual is identified as potentially requiring blood testing
for an EEP post they are sent a letter asking them to attend for HIV,
HEP C and HEP B testing. Further information is given when an individual
attends so the letter does not go into detail about certain tests being
required depending on when the individual came into an EPP work.
Do any of you have form letters requesting that an individual supplies
HIV, HEP C and/or HEP B blood results for clearance to work in EPP
posts? If so does this letter go into detail about the date
recommendations about testing were introduced? If so/if not is there any
reason why you made this decision? Would anybody be prepared to share
any from letters you have on this subject?
Thanks for any thoughts that you have.
Donna Budden
