There is some wok from our group in mental health and elderly people:
1. Shah AK. Difficulties experienced by a Gujarati psychiatrist in interviewing Gujarati elders in Gujarati. International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry. 1999; 14: 1072-1074.
This is an observational study of clinical experience.
Thornton T, Shah AK, Thomas P. Understanding, testimony and interpretation in psychiatric diagnosis. Medicine, Healthcare and Philosophy. In Press.
Thomas P, Thornton T, Shah AK. Language, Games and Interpretation in Psychiatric Diagnosis: A wittgensteinian thought experiment. Journal of Medical Humanities. In Press.
The above two are papers based on philosophical research constructs of using interpreters in assessing mental health problems in those who do not speak English with the aid of interpreters.
I hope these papers may be of help.

Hi All
Does anyone know of any research carried out in any PCT or acute trust
on consultations that are conducted in languages other than English
(whether through professional interpreters or family members or where
the practitioner themselves speaks the other language)?
If so I would be keen to hear about it - I'm sure that there are list
members who may have been involved in this kind of research.
Oh - and a Happy New Year!!
