My comment about the diagonal bracing of the stows sometimes being of iron,
was in relation to the full-size article, so it was very interesting to
learn that "posen stows" were to be entirely of wood (including the nails!)
Incidentally, my immediate reference (including the bit about the stows
being mounted on stakes) was from "Peakland Lead Mines and Miners" - the
text being by Dr Lynn Willies and with an accompanying photo of the
(full-size) stows at the Golconda Mine, Brassington - still extant in the
early '60s.
I must look through my other books... when I get a minute!
