Dear colleagues
As per the meeting this afternoon (our network meeting at Bradord MeCCA Conference) I have been asked to keep the network up to date on the Digital Britain Report and Ofcom PSB Review II. The Digital Britian report was "leaked" to the Finanical Times yesterday, while some of us were in Bradford, so although its publication is due on the 26th January the main items identified by the FT are as follows;
?A new broadcasting "entity" to replace Channel 4 using public and private assets as well as those of the existing broadcaster
?Long-term solution for provision of national, regional and local news
?Expanded role for BBC's commercial arm, Worldwide, to act as UK rights marketing company for other broadcasters
?Legislation and formation of a rights agency to combat internet piracy
?Restructuring of digital radio networks and greater flexibility on possible mergers
?An OFT review of possible relaxation in competition law for the regional press and radio
?A review of terms of trade between broadcasters and independent television producers to see if television
?2012 to be a transformational the year when Digital Britain arrives
I have also copied the full article and attahced it to this e mail, completed with web address at the bottom for those of you who want to go directly to the site yourselves.
