Ph.D Candidate
University of Amsterdam Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences
(Noord-Holland), hours per week

Job description
As a PhD candidate you will conduct the research project
"Person-related and situation-related consequences of customized
communication". Customized communication is expected to result in
better message processing. Receivers are more open to it (i.e., accept
it more), because they perceive it as more relevant ("for me").
However, while customized communication is found to result in
increased acceptance of the message, it can also result in irritation,
perceived intrusiveness and concerns about violation of one's privacy.

In several experiments and real-life survey studies the positive and
negative consequences of customized communication are disentangled and
several factors that play a role in explaining these effects are
studied. This project bridges insights from the field of health
communication on the one hand and findings from marketing
communication on the other, and addresses persuasion processes that
are central to the ASCoR program group Persuasive Communication.

The proposed research will result in a PhD thesis consisting of
scientific articles published in high-quality journals.
You will also be expected to take up some teaching duties within the
Department of Communication Science.
