As Tony says photographing objects hasn't changed with digital.
Secondhand lighting books for film cameras and the information on TASI make
a good cost effective combination.
But if you are completely new to digital it could be worth getting a digital book
simply so you understand why white balance, resolution, different file types,
and so on will all affect the images you produce. And that includes their future
use
and storage.
