Publishers need to keep up with their audiences. What more can you offer?
An in-depth examination of the tools, services and features which can be
used to increase the value and relevance of your journal. Speakers from US
and UK offer a truly international view of what everyone is doing or
planning - this seminar is a must for everyone involved in medical
publishing.
Medical Journals: adding value to primary content
Date: Friday 15 January 2009 (0930 - 1630)
Venue: British Institute of Radiology, 36 Portland Place, London, W1B 1AT
Chair: Caroline Black, Mac Keith <http://www.mackeith.co.uk/> Press
With primary research literature becoming increasingly accessible through a
variety of channels, the role of the traditional journal is being called
into question. Many journals are developing features to interpret or
supplement their primary content. Technology offers opportunities to develop
new services for the online journal user. Medical journals in particular
could add value through novel features that meet the information needs of
their busy clinical readership, whose expectations of what the internet can
provide are growing. But how do you decide what is a good investment for
your journal, and what are the pros and cons of broadening your journal's
scope?
Case Studies of successful developments in both the UK and US will help
delegates consider what might be suitable for their own journals.
Who should attend: academic journal editors, managing editors and publishers
as well as journal managers from both an editorial and marketing background.
Session 1: Different formats for different users: How two journals have
developed into what are in effect different products for different
