Introduction to Taxonomies, 3rd February
This one-day course gives an overview of taxonomy, looking at what we mean
by taxonomy and how it can support information management and
discoverability.

Building a fileplan for electronic records, 4th February
EDRM systems offer the opportunity for organisations to deploy a single
classification structure against which any folder of documents can be
classified. For this to be of benefit to the organisation it needs to be:
comprehensive (covering all the activities in your organisation) - future-proof
(so that you don’t have to change it when organisational structure or
processes change) - logical, consistent and concise (so that it works well as a
classification) - understood and acceptable to people in your organisation

Be a better searcher without Google, 5th February
While Google is acknowledged as being the pre-eminent internet search
engine, effective searchers will have a far wider selection of resources in their
information armoury.
This course will look at alternatives to Google which allow searchers to work
more effectively. It will not only look at alternative search engines, but will
also consider other methods of obtaining information.

Digital Copyright, 11 February
This course considers how copyright applies to electronic information. Whether
you want to digitise material that is currently only available as hard-copy
content, to make copies of born digital content, to provide networked access
to copyright materials, or to download complete reports from the internet, this
course sets out to guide delegates through the copyright maze. Ample
opportunities will be provided throughout the day for delegates to ask

Information architecture foundation programme: bringing order to information
chaos, 24th February
This one day foundation programme provides an essential introduction to the
important principles of information architecture design for the information and
knowledge professional. It explores how modern information resources need to
be organised, classified and formatted for effective navigation and retrieval. It
introduces the current thinking on electronic collection design, information
classification, meta data standards and information navigation techniques. It
also describes specialised roles and publication processes required to make an
effective information architecture work.

Training the trainer: preparing LIS professionals to train their users,
24th February & 25th March
Training has become an integral part of the job for many library and
information professionals, as more information becomes available and end-
users access more information from their desktops. The role of the LIS team
has expanded into facilitation, as they need to pass on their skills and
knowledge to colleagues. This two day course provides the background
necessary for you to prepare and deliver appropriate training for your clients,
whether the clients are members of your own team, trainee solicitors,
corporate financiers, health workers or managing directors. Practical exercises
will help you develop your confidence. The two days are split so that
delegates have the opportunity to prepare for the second day.

Records management is the discipline that enables organizations to keep
evidence of the work that they do. The task has become both more important
and more challenging in this electronic age, when colleagues have so many

Practical implementation of ISO 15489, 27th February
An opportunity to explore the standard with one of its authors and also to
gain an insight to new developments as the standard is being rewritten.
This one day workshop covers the systems analysis approach to records
management as advocated by ISO TR 15489. It explores how this can be used
firstly to design robust record systems and secondly how this approach can
support knowledge management strategies within the organisation.
