I have just started a module “Student Guidance and Support”, which is part of
a CPD course in Academic Practice.
A future session entitled “the student experience: the student voice” will
give course delegates the opportunity to meet with a small group of students
and chat to them about their experiences and views of studying and of the
support/guidance they have encountered at Northumbria University.
Part of the assessment of the course is to focus on an area within student
development and guidance, which involves delivering a presentation and
undertaking some reflecting writing. I am toying with the idea of focusing on
the area of the “student voice” and am interested in finding out what students
feel they need/would like/prefer when attending library inductions.
In particular, I would like to investigate whether they would also prefer a
practical induction to the Library which could involve demonstrating how to
issue/return a book; how to print; how to get an item off the shelves; how to
re-charge their printing/photocopying account etc.
Prior to trying to research this area, I was wondering if anyone has already
looked into this or have any information which I could look at, or perhaps you
could point me to.
Any help would be appreciated.
