The Department of Health is intending to commission independent research on
the health inequalities elements of the NHS resource allocation weighted
capitation formula for England.
The objectives of the research are to a) appraise the different approaches to
a health inequalities element of the weighted capitation formula, and b)
suggest potential improvements and, as appropriate, new approaches to the
health inequalities element of the weighted capitation formula.
The Department expects to issue an invitation to tender on 11 February 2009,
with the research undertaken for 4-5 months commencing in March 2009.
