Dear Colleagues,
Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Director
Centre for Geospatial Science, University of Nottingham
(£41,118 - £44,930)
The Centre for Geospatial Science (CGS) undertakes research at the intersection of positioning; broad-band mobile communications; senor-web enablement; spatial search and pervasive computing technologies. In combination, these technologies fundamentally change the access to, and use of, location-based data in society. However, the necessary multi-disciplinary research needed to transform raw data and information into useful knowledge through integration, analysis and modelling is lagging behind the development of the tools to collect the raw data. CGS's multi-disciplinary research programme addresses this shortfall and undertakes research into spatial data infrastructures (SDI), geospatial interoperability, geospatial intelligence and mobile location-based services. The Centre has grown rapidly in its first three years and further growth based on a world-leading research reputation is planned. CGS has well-developed national and international collaborations with other research establishments and research programmes and plays an active role in Standards organisations, in particular, the Open Geospatial Consortium. It has current funded research projects with the UK Research Councils, UK Government, the EU and industry. The Centre runs an MSc by Research in Geospatial Intelligence and participates in the teaching of the Geography Department's MSc in GIS.
The Post: The vacancy is for a Deputy Director and Senior Researcher with a national and growing international reputation in one or more of the research fields described, above. The appointee will be expected to continue to pursue their research interests, seek appropriate research funding opportunities on a Centre-wide basis and to participate in all aspects of strategic planning and management of the Centre. The plans are that the proposed role should convert to a permanent position based upon the financial sustainability of the Centre and that the position of Centre Director should rotate on a periodic basis.
Necessary Qualifications: A relevant good first degree plus appropriate post-graduate qualifications to include a PhD and publications record or substantial Government / industry research experience. Experience of winning research contracts and research management plus team leadership / management experience.
Salary: £41,118 - £44,930 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
This post is offered as a 2 year fixed term contract with a possibility of becoming permanent.
