Research Associate, SEIS-UK

A position of Seismologist is available at SEIS-UK, an internationally-recognised facility for portable seismic instrumentation and data management. SEIS-UK is a Natural Environmental Research Council supported national facility based in the Department of Geology at the University of Leicester. The facility provides a range of seismometers and data management support for use on research projects organised by members of the UK academic community. The seismologist will join the existing team running the facility. The post will involve all aspects of field seismology including equipment maintenance, documentation and software development for instrument use and data management. Full training will be provided for this diverse and engaging position. Once trained the post holder will assist with the training and support of the facility's users. A considerable amount of foreign travel for field-support, and regular interaction with a wide range of collaborators, is anticipated.
Candidates should have an excellent first degree in earth or physical sciences and possibly a higher degree or relevant experience. The candidate will also have an understanding of seismology, have undertaken some geophysical fieldwork, and will have good computing skills. Some experience of linux and/or programming would be an advantage.
