Country of Origin Information urgently required in defending a Ghanaian,
seeking asylum in South Korea. Claimant, a preliterate yam farmer,
escaped chieftaincy conflict in the northern part of Ghana called
Dagomba during which his uncle, Ya Na Yakuba Andan, who had ruled a
chieftaincy in the northern part of Ghana, was killed at Yendi, Dagbon,
in 2002, with more than 40 people including claimant’s mother and
sister, by a rival clan (Abuda). His first instance claim was rejected,
appellate court ruled his statements were not consistent and there is
‘internal flight alternative’ available in Ghana. The Claimant has been
detained a year and a half resisting return. He believes that many
relatives escaped to Europe, but claimant has no contact. The case is
now before the Supreme Court.
