Dear All,
I have recently been involved in a project where we were looking at a
former university building used as a research laboratory.
During the site walkover and site interviews, one of the former lab
managers raised this issue of their former 'solvent pit'.
This was a pit excavated out-side the laboratory where unwanted solvents
were emptied under the assumption that they would volatilise into the
atmosphere.
Obviously we now know that this would cause significant impact to soils
and groundwater.
I also have been informed that the use of a 'solvent disposal pit' was
recommended government practise!
Does anyone know if this is true, and if so are their any records of
this as a recommended practise?
Thanks in advance,
Martin
