I'm not sure if you are exploring roaming profiles generally or only
within the context of Windows.
If you are interested in roaming profiles generally, I'd like to
point out that Sun's Sun Ray system also supports this.

There is also accessibility work being done in this area, so blind
users would also have a screen reader available wherever they log in etc.
This is a thin-client approach that requires a server, so it's not
ideal for every use case.
