PhD Studentships, City University London

City University London is inviting applications for 10 full-time,
three-year PhD studentships. Applications are welcome from candidates
wishing to undertake research in any of the University's academic
areas including Human-Computer Interaction and will be awarded on a
competitive basis. Each studentship will provide a three-year tutition
fee waiver and a bursary of 14,000 pounds per annum.
Whilst applications to undertake research in any area of HCI are
welcome, applications in the following areas are of particular
interest:
- Theories and empirical studies of collaborative work in healthcare and
other socio-technical systems
- Social aspects of computing, e.g. studying and modeling human behaviour
in 3D virtual worlds and computer games (such as SecondLife and World of
Warcraft)
- HCI and Information Seeking: designing systems to help users find
information more easily (search engines and digital libraries)
- Mobile HCI: design and evaluation of novel interactions using mobile
devices and services
- Technology-enhanced learning and usability; fun and engagement with
learning technologies
- Usability and user experience; evaluating use and usability off the
desktop
- Creativity in design
HCI research at City University London is located within the Centre
for HCI Design (HCID), in the School of Informatics. HCID is a leader
in HCI and Requirements research with a strong record of journal and
