This one day conference will explore ideas and opportunities for increasing the
usage and awareness of library and archive collections in museums and
galleries. Speakers from the university, museum, library and archive sectors
will consider initiatives which have proved successful in enabling access and
research into special collections. They will look at partnership approaches to
collections development and access, focusing on cooperation between
librarians, educators, curators and archivists, and consider the factors that
make cross-sectoral and cross-institutional collaboration possible and
effective The conference will also examine how the expectations of the
Google generation, and the recent advances in web applications and utilities,
impact on the services archivists and librarians provide, and consider whether
current professional training programmes deliver the skills required to make the
most of emerging technologies and techniques.
