Dear list,
I have recently discovered in my collection a number of medieval and early
modern deeds. They haven't been properly catalogued as yet but in the
1940s, they were provisionally listed when they were kept in their previous
location prior to being deposited at the record office. As a way of identifying
each deed, a label was affixed using sticking plaster/elastoplast/band aid.
Obviously, this cannot stay on the documents so I have been gently peeling
the pieces of plaster off. Thankfully, they have not left scars but bits of dried
out adhesive remain on the parchment.
Has anyone else come across this? Or do you any suggestions as to how/if I
can remove the remnants of the adhesive?
All answers gratefully received!
Alison
