We are seeking a Research Fellow to work in the Epidemiology and Public Health Group of the Peninsula Medical School, based in Exeter, UK. The post represents an outstanding opportunity for a promising researcher to join an ambitious and expanding group working at the forefront of epidemiological research.
The Epidemiology and Public Health Group studies risk factors for disease in adult populations, focusing on mid and later life. Recent outputs have included genome wide association studies, studies of associations with environmental toxins and analyses of the effects of behavioural risk factors. Several recent outputs have attracted international scientific, policy and media attention.
The research programme is based on collaborations with the Medical School's quantitative traits genetics group (Professor Tim Frayling) and the University of Exeter's environmental toxicology group (Prof. Tamara Galloway). The group has close links to the US National Institutes of Health, and collaborates internationally with several well established epidemiological studies.
This three-year post is suitable for a post-doctoral or Masters-level epidemiologist or statistician, or a scientist from a quantitative discipline relevant to the programme. Applications are encouraged from those interested both in taking innovative approaches to recognized epidemiological questions and in applying proven solutions to new problems.
This post is funded as a full-time appointment in the University of Exeter, one of the parent universities of the Peninsula Medical School. A part time appointment may be possible. The appointment will be for a period of 3 years, preferably starting in the first quarter of 2009.
