Description: The School for Health at the University of Bath is seeking to
appoint a Medical Statistician to work with the NIHR Research Design Service
South West (RDS-SW). The RDS is a newly commissioned research programme
funded by the National Institute for Health Research to support health and
social care researchers in developing research ideas into successful grant
applications. A key part of the service will be face-to-face meetings with
people who have research ideas. As proposals develop, staff with specific
expertise will become involved so that a full range of support can be
provided. A vital part of the work will be helping to build effective
research teams with all the necessary skills and ensuring users and carers
are involved in the research process. The postholder will be expected to
provide quantitative research design expertise for external grant
applications to multidisciplinary teams of researchers within the South West
Region. We have strong links with all NHS organisations and Universities in
the South West and with RDSs elsewhere in England. We also have close
connections with relevant NHS research systems, including Research Ethics
Committees and Research Governance staff. The post will be 0.5 FTE and
funded until September 2013. The postholder will work under the supervision
of the Medical Statistician / Senior Lecturer, Dr Gordon Taylor. Applicants
should have a postgraduate qualification in a related subject with
experience in medical statistics and/or epidemiology. The successful
applicant will possess the ability to manage and organise the development of
applied research grant applications, working as part of a research team.
Excellent interpersonal and highly developed IT skills are also important

Salary: £14,852 - £17,748 (£29,704 - £35,469 pro rata)
