Colleagues
Firstly introductions as I am a new member. I am Richard Everett and I run a
small consultancy business called intelligentBuilders Limited
(www.intelligentbuilders.co.uk) which specializes in the area of 'Smart' or
'Intelligent' buildings in Education - and particularly the possibilities
that converged or integrated ICT infrastructures can bring. This is
particularly of note to the accessibility angle because many designers of
building projects I have seen hitherto do not have a good track record in
creating accessible buildings - not just from a physical point of view but
from a pedagogical point of view too. It is in this area that my consultancy
possibly can help in leveraging the intelligent building concepts to
increase the accessibility of such educational buildings.
While I have a great deal of knowledge/understanding on the intelligent
building side, and some track record in my previous role at Oaklands College
(I was Director of eLearning there) on the accessibility side I am always
keen to find other angles that are important to the accessibility agenda.
Do colleagues have any tips please for what accessibility points should be
included in the design of a new building?
Are there specialist consultancies that can advise on these aspects (by
joining new build teams)?
Are there any tips and tricks anyone can offer on accessibility design for
new buildings (logical as well as physical)?
Are there particular points of reference that I should be looking at to
guide the design process (governmental or non governmental)?
I hope this is not too wide a question (it probably is) - but any advice
from colleagues experiences would be much appreciated.
Regards
Richard
