Rita,
I agree with you.
I am speaking to registrars in endocrinology, so the focus will be on stability of analytes etc but there is a clear demand for this from different users of our service.
GPs repeatedly ask us to come out and talk to them about pitfalls and limitations and it should also be part of junior doctor training. Some of us are still fortunate enough to have room in the under-graduate timetable for a 'general introduction to laboratory testing' but it has disappeared from many curricula.
I am looking for some specific cases as described in your email but also examples of drug interference (e.g. Trimethoprim and eGFR), biological variation, sample adulteration, transport & storage issues, macroenzymes, images, case reports etc. The specialist centres must all have a long list of limitations and exclusions that are worth sharing with the wider community.
I am sure the combined number of cases from this Forum would make a highly educational and entertaining presentation.
Best wishes
Wolf

Subject: Re: lectures notes on pitfalls in laboratory testing
Wolf, interesting coincidence as I just came from a local meeting where
we discussed something very similar, so may I join in?
Our title will be sg. like "The tales of unexpected in laboratory
medicine" and the topic is focused on preanalytical errors and their
influence on lab results. We wish to deliver a course to doctors on the
importance of the preanalytical phase for which we need some real life
(preferably "shocking") case stories in order to open the eyes of
clinicians why this phase is so important for them to pay more attention to.
So if anyone has some good SPECIAL cases related to these errors, we
would appreciate it.
Thanks a lot!
